Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic many of us are relying on technology a lot more than usual. For many, technology is now our main source of communication – work meetings via Zoom, family chats on FaceTime, WhatsApp messaging. Online food deliveries have become the norm and online banking and health services are more important than ever. And digital communication platforms are even enabling us to continue hobbies or exercise routines. But not everyone has access to these tools to support their daily living and wellbeing at home. Even those with access to this technology may not have access to the necessary platforms, or the skills to use these platforms. There is a divide between those able to access and those excluded from online support. We want to make 'A Change' with our project plans Our aim for 2021 and beyond, is the delivery of a Digital Inclusion Project for Older People, providing older people living in the Borough of Great Yarmouth with the opportunity to learn how to use a variety of technological devices with supportive guidance from volunteer 'Digital Champions'. The worldwide Covid-19 Pandemic has highlighted the need and importance for older people to gain understanding and greater knowledge of the digital world we all live in today and to feel confident in using digital devices without apprehension. Information and communications technology has the tremendous potential to improve the quality of later life: creating social networks to tackle isolation and loneliness and providing access to a variety of available services and information to help older people live independently at home for longer. We have already received some amazing funding support and this will enable Age+ Connected to purchase a variety of digital devices, laptops, tablets and mobile phones and to train volunteers, allowing us to get the ball rolling with this much needed service , that will truly be such a benefit to older people living in the Borough and as an area of deprivation would also normally be financially out of reach for many. The chance to connect individuals with their family and friends from near and far on a digital screen really will be a moving and emotional experience for all, so we may have to buy some tissues as well. Our project will make a huge difference in growing the confidence of older people and for them to feel connected and digitally included to the families and friend they love and miss so much and too access important information and support. OUR NEW DIGITAL INCLUSION PROJECT STARTED ON 7th JULY 2021 , COME ALONG AND FIND YOUR DIGITAL CONFIDENCE WITH SUPPORTED LEARNING WE ARE RECRUITING NOW - WE NEED DIGITAL AGE CONNECTER VOLUNTEERS TO SUPPORT OUR DIGITAL PROJECT ATTENDEES , COULD THIS BE YOU?
